With time winding down in the second quarter, Kris Humphries fouled Kevin Garnett on a drive to the basket that sent Garnett to the ground. Immediately following the foul, Rajon Rondo shoved Humphries, leading to scuffle involving several players.
When the dust finally cleared, Rondo, Humphries and Gerald Wallace were all ejected.
Aside from being a tough blow to the Celtics, Rondo's ejection also meant the end to his 37-game streak of 10 or more assists.
Though the halftime score might have been an afterthought, Brooklyn went into the locker room up, 51-38.
The Nets maintained a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter, and a small Boston run did little to change the course of the game. A pair of Jared Sullinger free throws cut the deficit to nine with 8:33 left, but that was as close as Boston would get.
Garnett and Brandon Bass both had 16 to lead the Celtics. Garnett also added 10 rebounds, but Boston lost the battle of the boards, 50-40.
