The Knicks improved to 4-0 as they defeated the Mavericks Friday night. Carmelo Anthony led all players with 31 points.

The New York Knicks remained undefeated as they defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 104-94, Friday night. A 4-0 start for the Knicks has not happened since the 1993-94 season, and they are the only undefeated team in the NBA.

Carmelo Anthony had a big game for the Knicks, scoring 31 points to lead all players. J.R. Smith came off the bench for the Knicks to score 22 points. He also was a defensive presence, finishing the game with four steals and a blocked shot.

The game was close at the half, with the Mavericks leading by just two points, but the Knicks picked up their game in the third quarter with a 13-5 run. New York took their their first lead of the second half after that run, and never relinquished it back to Dallas.

The Knicks defense deserves a ton of credit for the win. The Mavericks shot just 40 percent from the field, including 8 of 28 from three-point range. Also, they forced the Mavericks into 20 turnovers, and that included 12 steals.

The Mavericks did have four players in double figures, with O.J. Mayo leading the way with 23 points.
