Kyrie Irving is set to play for the first time since Nov. 18 this Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers, while rookie Dion Waiters' status is still uncertain following a sprained ankle.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving is expected to play against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday after missing 11 games with a finger injury, according to the Cavaliers team site.
Irving was averaging 22.9 points and 5.6 assists in 10 games this season but has been sidelined since Nov. 18. The Cavaliers are 2-9 in his absence. Irving played through the injury, which was reported as a hairline fracture to his left index finger, for several games before the discomfort became too much to overcome.
Irving's return is positive news for a Cavaliers team that is dealing with a number of injuries, most notably to rookie Dion Waiters. Waiters remains out following a sprained ankle he suffered against the Dallas Mavericks on Dec. 1. Averaging 15.2 points in 17 games this season, Waiters has not played in Cleveland's past four games due to the injury.
Mary Schmitt Boyer of the Plain Dealer reports that Waiters has not yet resumed full practice and is day-to-day.
