Steve Nash injury update: Lakers PG out 'at least another 2 weeks'

Christopher Hanewinckel-US PRESSWIRE

Lakers head coach says return of Nash may not come for another two weeks.

The Los Angeles Lakers could be without veteran point guard Steve Nash for another two weeks, according to David Leon Moore of USA Today. The news was delivered by Lakers head coach Mike D'Antoni, who spoke with Moore before LA began a four-game road trip to the East Coast on Tuesday.

D'Antoni speculated Sunday that Nash might return at some point on the upcoming road trip but Nash told USA TODAY Sports that won't happen.

"I think it will be at least another two weeks," Nash said. "I can move. I can shoot. I just can't run full speed. And I'm not even in shape. I'll probably need at least a week of practice once I start running."

Nash, who has already missed 19 games, is covering from a small fracture in his left leg, which he suffered in the second game of the season.

Since Nash's injury, the latest updates have continued to push back his return to the hardwood. Nash's return is seen as vital to a Lakers' turnaround -- LA is 9-12 overall and sits in a tie for 10th place in the West Conference standings.

Without Nash, the Lakers are still averaging 101.8 points per game, ranked seventh in the league, but the flow of the offense still isn't what D'Antoni envisioned when he was hired in mid-November after Mike Brown was fired.
