JaVale McGee may have been relatively quiet in the stat sheet, but his energy late in the Denver Nuggets' 99-94 win over the Memphis Grizzlies made all the difference in front of the team's home crowd at the Pepsi Center on Friday night.
McGee was all over the court defensively, changing shots and even blocking a runner that he turned into a steal and fast-break points for Denver. He finished with nine points, six rebounds, four blocks and a steal. Andre Iguodala led the Nuggets with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 1-of-2 from the three-point line.
The Nuggets got 36 points from the bench, and four players scored in double figures. They overcame 20 turnovers by shooting an outstanding 52.2 percent from the field.
Rudy Gay had a game-high 21 points to lead the Grizzlies. He added four assists and four rebounds.
Denver moved to 12-12 on the season with the win, while Memphis fell to 14-6. The Nuggets will travel to Northern California to face the Sacramento Kings on Sunday. The Grizzlies will head to Utah on Saturday to embark on the second leg of a back-to-back.
