The Minnesota Timberwolves held off a late rally to defeat the Dallas Mavericks, 114-106, in overtime.

The big story in this one was the return of Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio. Prior to tonight the 22-year-old had been out for over nine months while recovering from a significant left knee injury.

Rubio saw 18 minutes of playing time against the Mavericks, scoring eight points on 1-of-4 shooting from the field to go with nine assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Minnesota entered the fourth quarter with a 10-point advantage, but Dallas outscored them 32-22 to send the contest into overtime. The Timberwolves went on to dominate the extra session, scoring 10 points in overtime while holding the Mavericks to only four.

Nikola Pekovic led the way for the Timberwolves, scoring 21 points on 10-of-21 shooting with nine rebounds and three assists. O.J. Mayo and Derek Fisher each scored 20 points for the Mavericks.

The Timberwolves next contest is Monday when they travel to Orlando to take on the Magic. The Mavericks play host to the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday.
