The Christmas Day game pits Mike D'Antoni against his former team for the first time since taking over as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Eastern Conference-leading New York Knicks head to Los Angeles on Tuesday for a nationally-televised showdown with the wayward Lakers and former Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni.
The Christmas Day clash will mark the second game back in action for Lakers point guard Steve Nash, who has been out with a non-displaced fracture in his left leg since Halloween. The 17-year veteran, who missed 24 games with the injury, returned on Saturday night against the Golden State Warriors and had 12 points and nine assists in the Lakers' 118-115 overtime win.
The game marks the 14th consecutive year that the Lakers have played on Christmas, and the 39th time in franchise history. Kobe Bryant and company have haven't been very successful at doling out holiday cheer to Lakers fans of late, as they've posted a 4-9 record in their last 13 Christmas Day games. The Knicks will be making a record 49th Christmas Day appearance.
