Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol will not be playing against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night due to knee tendinitis in both knees but him sitting is not due to the Lakers having a trade in the works, according to ESPN Los Angeles' Dave McMenamin.
But according to McMenamin, Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak has notified Gasol's representatives that if Gasol does not adjust to the new offensive system under head coach Mike D'Antoni, the team will be forced to explore trade options involving the 32-year-old four-time All-Star.
Gasol's injury comes at a bad time as he's averaging career-lows in points (12.6) and shooting percentage (42 percent) while his replacement in the starting lineup, Antawn Jamison, has flourished with averages of 16.2 points and 8.6 rebounds on 58.2 percent shooting off the bench over the past five games. This will give the team a look at how Jamison plays with the starters and if it runs smoother than it does with Gasol, it could begin the end for Gasol's tenure in Los Angeles.
