With the win, the Knicks improved to 13-4 on the season and are now a 1/2 game ahead of the Miami Heat in the East. New York wasn't the only Eastern Conference contender to improve its standing on Wednesday. The Atlanta Hawks maintained their claim of the No. 3 seed with a 108-104 win over Denver while Indiana, Boston and Chicago also won. The Pacers win, coupled with Milwaukee's loss moved gave Indiana a one-game lead for the No. 8 seed.
In the Western Conference, San Antonio won on Wednesday to improve to 15-4 and into a tie with Oklahoma City for the top spot in the West. Memphis was off on Wednesday, but the Grizzlies are just a 1/2 game behind the two top teams. The Clippers blew out the Mavericks on Wednesday to remain the No. 4 team in the West while Golden State also won to remain No. 5 and keep pace with Los Angeles. Houston, Utah and the Los Angeles Lakers round out the top eight teams in the West.
The top spot in the East will be on the line Thursday as the Knicks travel to Miami to face the Heat.
