Feb 1, 2012 - Blake Griffin left the internet's mouth agape the last time he was on the basketball court after he ferociously threw down over Kendrick Perkins. The Los Angeles Clippers forward will have a chance to attempt to recreate that performance on Wednesday night when his team travels east to play the Utah Jazz in the second half of an ESPN doubleheader.
Griffin likely won't replicate that dunk, of course, but his Clippers will attempt to pick up their fourth-consecutive victory as they continue to move up SB Nation's NBA power rankings. While Griffin provides the highlights, however, it's been Chris Paul setting up his new teammates for the highlight plays -- whether they come from rainbow shots from beyond the arc or the powerful inside dunks provided by Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.
Paul is currently third in the league in assists with 8.9 per game to go with his 18.1 points per contest, though he's averaging an even 10 assists per game since returning from injury this past weekend. He'll have to keep that assist rate up against the Jazz, and the turnovers down, as they've shown the ability to sneak up on teams not playing to their full potential this season.
As far as the Jazz are concerned, Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson are the team's two leading scorers as they dump the ball down low quite a bit. Griffin's competition in the highlight game won't be either of the Jazz starters, however, but second-year pro Jeremy Evans.
Evans is but a bit player in the Jazz offense, but when he gets in, he's capable of some of the best highlight reel dunks this side of Blake Griffin. The team's even put together a campaign to get Evans into the dunk contest, something our friends over at SLC Dunk shed some light on earlier this week.
If nothing else, it should be an exciting game on Wednesday night considering the amount of players capable of making Top 10-type plays, but the Clips look to have the upper hand as they attempt to continue riding their hot streak.
