The New Orleans Hornets appear to have come to Madison Square Garden determined to snap the seven-game winning streak of the New York Knicks. The Hornets clamped down on Jeremy Lin in the first quarter and ended up taking a huge early lead. The Knicks closed that gap admirably, but the big first quarter by New Orleans has them entering halftime up by a score of 43-39.
The Hornets held Lin to just a few points in the first quarter while outscoring New York by a whopping 27-13. The Knicks still trailed by 10 points midway through the second half, but came back in a big way to close the gap to 4. Spike Lee has come down with a ridiculous case of Linsanity, tweeting an obscene amount of Lin puns and professing his love for the Knicks above and beyond the norm lately. This was expected, and Spike probably deserves to have something to cheer about when it comes to the Knicks after what seems like an eternity of sadness for the famous director.
But this ... this is a whole 'nother level. Spike is wearing Jeremy Lin's Palo Alto High School jersey on Friday night at The Garden. Of course he is!
The New York Knicks and Linsanity are hosting the New Orleans Hornets on Friday at Madison Square Garden. Jeremy Lin has led the Knicks to a seven-game winning streak and the Hornets enter the game with a dismal 6-23 record, but in the early going, the Hornets look intent on snapping the streak and clamping down on the newly-minted superstar. Midway through the second quarter, the Hornets hold a 39-33 lead.
Lin has started slow, turning the ball over three times before scoring a point. By the time he nabbed his first bucket, he already had amassed five turnovers. Midway through the second quarter, he has totaled six points, six turnovers, two steals, an assist and a rebound.
The Hornets put together a big first quarter, outscoring the Knicks 27-13. The Knicks have come back in the second quarter but still trail.

Some think New Orleans will put an end to the Linsanity that has engulfed New York City on Friday. Others think that honor is reserved for the eventual return of the injured Carmelo Anthony.
The thought was that Jeremy Lin and Anthony could be in the starting lineup together on Friday night as the Knicks shoot for their eighth straight win against the Hornets in Madison Square Garden. However, Anthony was ruled out again on Friday morning as he continues to recover from a strained right groin. New York coach Mike D'Antoni said the All-Star could be available Sunday when the Dallas Mavericks visit Gotham.
New York's recent resurgence, of course, has coincided with both Lin's rise from obscurity and Anthony's absence from the lineup. Lin continued his unlikely surge on Wednesday, setting a career high in assists for the second straight day and handing out nine of his 13 helpers in the first half as the Knicks built a big lead on the way to a 100-85 win over the Sacramento Kings.
New York has won seven games in a row for the first time since last season, all with big contributions from the former benchwarmer and new starting point guard.
The Hornets, meanwhile, opened up a six-game road trip on Wednesday by earning a 92-89 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Marco Belinelli led the Hornets in the victory with 22 points as New Orleans snapped a six-game road losing streak.

The New Orleans Hornets have just six victories this season and, unfortunately for them, they're scheduled to face the buzzsaw that is the New York Knicks to begin the weekend. There's no telling whether Jeremy Lin will be able to continue the incredible pace he's set for himself through his first six starts, but it should still be worth watching.
Since Linsanity started, the second-year pro has taken the NBA by storm as he's willed the Knicks to victory after victory with moxie rarely seen in a player cut by two teams in the same season. The fact that the Knicks' top two scoring options -- Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire -- have been out for the majority of the run makes Lin's performance all the more impressive.
Lin is averaging 23.6 points, 9.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 49 percent from the field over the past five games for the Knicks. Those are unusually high averages, but the Legend of Lin has been known to surprise us in the past.
Just as it likely will in Friday night's contest, mentions of Lin have overtaken every other relevant storyline heading into the matchup. There isn't much else to talk about regarding the Knicks until 'Melo returns -- Tom Ziller broke down what that will mean -- but the Hornets are sort of a mess right now.
The Hornets' lone All-Star possibility, Eric Gordon, has missed the majority of the season due to injury. The team attempted to trade center Chris Kaman, but was unable to find a suitable trade partner after sitting him out for a couple of weeks while trying to keep him healthy. Greivis Vasquez has been a nice surprise, but his average of 12.3 points and 7.8 assists in six starts pale in comparison to Lin.

Jeremy Lin enthusiasts, New York Knicks supporters and fans of four NHL franchises can rejoice in the news that Time Warner Cable has resolved its dispute with MSG Network, according to the New York Times.
The two sides had been embroiled in a 48-day standoff over the fee Time Warner pays MSG to carry the station; the impasse kept approximately 2 million sports fans in the New York City area from enjoying Linsanity, not to mention the rise of the Rangers to the top of the NHL's Eastern Conference, the recent surge of the New Jersey Devils in the standings, and, well ... the New York Islanders, too.
The dispute also affected Time Warner Cable customers in Buffalo, who rely on MSG to watch locally broadcast Sabres games in Western and Central New York.
A resolution was reached with help from the office of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, which brought MSG Executive Chairman James Dolan -- also the owner of the Rangers and Knicks -- together with Time Warner chief executive Glenn Britt to accelerate negotiations.

Hornets Vs. Knicks Final Score: Win Streak Comes To An End As New Orleans Holds On For 89-85 Victory
The New Orleans Hornets came to Madison Square Garden on Friday night with definite goals: snap the seven-game winning streak of the New York Knicks and put Linsanity on hold for at least one night. Thanks to big first and third quarters, the Hornets were able to realize those goals, as they picked up the win, 89-85.
The Hornets came out of the gate blazing, clamping down on Jeremy Lin as they opened up a 27-13 lead. They held a 10-point lead until midway through the second quarter, when the Knicks came roaring back and closed to within four points of the lead heading into halftime. In the third quarter, however, the Hornets again fired on all cylinders and opened up another 10-point lead. The Knicks battled back yet again and got within three points, but the Hornets were able to hold on for the win.
There were still some standout performances for the Knicks in the losing effort. Amare Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin tied for the scoring lead in the game with 26 points each. Stoudemire picked up a double-double by adding 12 rebounds, while Lin had an embarrassing nine turnovers in the game. The nine turnovers matches the NBA season high, previously set by Russell Westbrook, Ben Gordon and Monta Ellis. Tyson Chandler had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
On the Hornets side, Trevor Ariza had a great game, with 25 points and eight rebounds. Gustavo Ayon had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Greivis Vasquez added a double-double of his own with 15 points and 11 assists.
With the win, the Hornets improve to just 7-23 on the season and only 4-9 on the road. The Knicks once again drop below .500 and are now 15-16 on the season.
The Hornets will hit the road for their next game, as they travel to face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, Feb. 20. The Knicks will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 19 as they host the reigning NBA champs, the Dallas Mavericks.
