Larry Hughes Waived By Orlando Magic; Ish Smith Expected To Be Called Up

Larry Hughes was waived by the Orlando Magic on Wednesday, following the team's win over the Washington Wizards.

Feb 2, 2012 - The Orlando Magic waived Larry Hughes on Wednesday night, following a 109-103 win over the Orlando Magic. Hughes came off the bench in that game, playing 14 minutes and scoring two points on 1-of-4 shooting. The move opens up a roster spot and the Magic are expected to quickly bring up a replacement.

The official team site confirmed the news on Wednesday night.

Following tonight's game vs. Washington, the Orlando Magic have waived guard Larry Hughes, President of Basketball Operations/GM Otis Smith announced. Orlando's roster now stands at 14 players.

And there's this, which ... ouch.

As for the replacement, Marc Spears reports Ish Smith is expected to join the Magic on Thursday.

For Hughes, this is likely the end of the line. His time in Orlando this season was always regarded as a trial run, with retirement lingering as a fall-back option.
