Bulls Vs. Knicks: Chicago Hands New York Their Tenth Loss In Twelve Games

The New York Knicks struggled in the first half of their game against the Chicago Bulls, struggling to create opportunities in the paint or in transition. They put together an excellent third quarter performance to make the fourth quarter interesting for all 12 minutes, but ultimately didn't have enough to overturn their poor first half performance, as the Bulls won 105-102.

New York has now lost 10 of their last 12 games. Following a bad outing in their last game against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Bulls were in need of a much better offensive performance and got it from the entire team, as they shot 53 percent from the floor. Derrick Rose put up 32 points and 13 assists, while every other Bulls player shot better than 50 percent.

The Knicks took an incredible 90 shots, with Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire combining for 53 of those. Both made the most of those shots, scoring 26 and 34 points respectably, but the Knicks bench failed to provide any scoring punch and the entire team played poor defensively, especially in the first half.

Though Chicago led wire to wire, the Knicks were within one possession of tying the game for the entire final minute, through numerous possessions. The Bulls made enough of their free throws to keep themselves in front late, and Anthony missed what would have been a game-tying three-point attempt at the buzzer.

Bulls Vs. Knicks: New York Needs To End Miserable Run

Over their last 11 games, the New York Knicks are 2-9. After an average, promising 6-4 start to the season, Mike D'Antoni's club has fallen off a cliff. On Thursday, they welcome the Chicago Bulls, the team with the NBA's best record, to Madison Square Garden.

The good news for the Knicks is that they finally looked good in their last game against the Detroit Pistons, while the Bulls looked poor in a road game against the Philadelphia 76ers. These are much different levels of competition this season, however, and those performances aren't necessarily indicative of quality or form for either team.

Carmelo Anthony returned for that rout of the Pistons on Tuesday after missing two games with an ankle injury, and the Knicks were seriously boosted by his presence as the scored 25 points in the win. It goes without saying that Melo will likely need an even bigger game than he had on Tuesday for the Knicks to record a victory. The Bulls have not lost two straight at any point during this season.

Game Date/Time: Thursday, 8:00 p.m. ET

Venue: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York

TV: TNT
