Dwight Howard trade rumors are going to be the hot topic over the next couple of weeks as the NBA trade deadline creeps closer, but it seems the Orlando Magic All-Star has further narrowed down his wishlist.
Howard has already said he wants to be traded to a few certain markets, but as the deadline moves closer, Howard's also shortening the list of teams he'd like to play for during the rest of the season. His favorite destinations still include the New Jersey Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks, Sports Illustrated's Sam Amick reports, but New Jersey is far and away the leader.
Though it may pain the purists, it's not just about basketball for Howard. He wants to take his brand global, to leverage the international influence of Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov while building his brand as Brooklyn's first star. His wandering eye is enticed not only by the Barclays Center that is set to open next season, but the businesses in the booming area around it that could afford many off-court opportunities. He wants, as one source said, to "be Kobe Bryant, not be with Kobe Bryant." Of course, it's hardly that simple.
As Howard limits his destinations, it's going to be interesting to see if he's also limiting the ability of the Magic to get top dollar considering he could become a free agent this offseason anyway.
