Amar'e Stoudemire's Brother Reportedly Dead After Florida Car Crash

Hazell Stoudemire, brother of New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire, reportedly passed away in a car accident early Monday morning. The 35-year-old was reportedly not wearing a seat belt.

Feb 6, 2012 - Amare Stoudemire suffered a personal tragedy early Monday morning as reports are indicating his older brother, Hazell Stoudemire, was killed in a car accident. The New York Knicks big man wasn't involved in the accident, but no one would blame him if he's distracted in the coming days.

The older Stoudemire's death was first reported by the gossip website TMZ. There aren't a lot of details available as of Monday morning, but the report indicates that the crash was due to Stoudemire driving at a high rate of speed.

The accident happened on Route 27 in Lake Wales. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Stoudemire was driving at a "high rate of speed" when he collided with the rear of a tractor trailer.

He died on the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol says 35-year old Stoudemire was not wearing a seat belt when he smashed into the big rig ... and they are unsure if alcohol was a factor.

The Knicks forward will likely take a few days away from basketball as he deals with the loss of his brother if the grim report turns out to be true.

Thoughts and prayers are with the Stoudemire family.
