Ricky Rubio Suffers Torn ACL, Done For The Year

Stay connected with SB Nation

Ricky Rubio's season is over after suffering a torn ACL late in Friday's game against the Lakers, a Timberwolves source tells Jerry Zgoda of the Star-Tribune and Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated. The injury will also prevent the young point guard from representing Spain in the 2012 Olympics in July.

Rubio suffered the injury while trying to defend Kobe Bryant in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. Adding insult to injury, Rubio fouled Bryant on the play, allowing Bryant to go to the line to make a pair of free throws to win the game.

Rubio has averaged 10.6 points, 8.2 assists and 2.2 steals in 34.2 minutes per game this year, making 31 starts while appearing in all 41 contests for Minnesota. The fifth overall pick of the 2009 NBA draft, Rubio proved to be worth the wait after staying in Spain for two additional seasons. Now, the Timberwolves are left waiting yet again.
