Knicks Vs. Bulls Final Score: Derrick Rose Takes Over Late, Chicago Wins 104-99

The New York Knicks put up more of a fight than they had in their previous five losses, but their Monday night game at the United Center against the Chicago Bulls, the NBA's best team at now 35-9, still ended with another notch in the loss column, 104-99, as Jeremy Lin couldn't stay in front of Derrick Rose. Carmelo Anthony was again largely invisible in the fourth quarter — and really all game long, scoring 21 points on 8-21 shooting.

The real story of the game, and the reason the Knicks didn't win by double digits, was the Bulls' offensive rebounding. The Knicks, most remarkably Amare Stoudemire, felt no desire to box out and attempt to grab defensive rebounding, and it showed. The Bulls grabbed an astonishing 22 offensive rebounds, eight by Taj Gibson alone, and he was really the one abusing Stoudemire, who had just three total rebounds.

Derrick Rose shot just 5-15 in the first half, but was absolutely phenomenal in the second half on both ends of the court, raising his game and the energy of his teammates and the crowd. He finished with 32 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and one terrifyingly powerful dunk:

Joakim Noah had a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds to go with five assists, and Gibson had 13 total rebounds and scored 15 points. Amare Stoudemire was great on the offensive end, hitting his open jump shots with great consistency and finishing with 20 points, but he could have scored 40 and it wouldn't compensate for the extreme lack of effort he put forth on the glass.

In Lin's first matchup with Rose, he didn't play poorly but was really a non-factor down the stretch when the Knicks desperately needed points, and Rose scored at will. He finished with 15 points, eight assists, three steals and three blocks, including this ridiculous swat on Rose.

Knicks Vs. Bulls Score Update: Derrick Rose, Amare Stoudemire Heat Up In Third Quarter

The New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls have played as tight a game as you can possibly imagine on Monday night in the United Center. No team has led by more than six points at any point, and the Bulls are up 79-78 after three quarters. Derrick Rose leads all scorers with 22 points, and his incredible athleticism has been on full display as he gets his shot against Jeremy Lin.

Amare Stoudemire heated up in the third quarter after an uninspired first half, knocking down long shots. Stoudemire's jump shot was a common sight last year, but has been noticeably absent from his game this season. He's got 18 points on 6-9 shooting so far. Jeremy Lin has done a good job dealing with Rose's athleticism as well, with 11 points, six assists, three blocks (!) and two steals, including this beauty:

This has been a great game so far, and is shaping up to be a special finish, especially with Lin, Rose and Carmelo Anthony, who all seem to love having the ball in the game's waning moments.

Knicks Vs. Bulls Halftime Update: New York Leads Chicago, 50-48, In Testy First Half

The New York Knicks have a two point halftime lead over the Chicago Bulls, despite a quiet scoring performance from both Jeremy Lin and Carmelo Anthony. Mike D'Antoni and Tom Thibodeau have both received technical fouls in the first half, and the teams have combined for 21 personal fouls -- the Bulls have 14 of them, including three apiece for Carlos Boozer, Taj Gibson and Omer Asik -- and no one is particularly thrilled with the referee crew.

Derrick Rose is the game's leading scorer with 13 points, though he's done it inefficiently, shooting just 5-15 from the field. He has had a few of his typically mystifyingly athletic moments, including this impressive take against Lin:

Tyson Chandler, though he hasn't been as individually spectacular as Rose, has been the game's best player thus far. He has 11 points, but is shooting 4-5 and has five rebounds and two blocks. The Bulls are shooting just 39.6 percent as a team, and that they are even at that mark is largely due to Chandler. He has altered shots, hedged beautifully on screens and has been a genuine terror on both ends.

Lin has contributed nicely for the Knicks with five assists, but Rose has shut him down from a scoring standpoint. He did have this beauty of a pass, though:

Carmelo Anthony has been incredibly quiet, other than that nice finish. He's been content — or seemingly content — to just hang out in the corner while Lin works a pick and roll with Chandler.

Knicks Vs. Bulls: Tyson Chandler, Jeremy Lin Lead New York To First Quarter Lead

The Chicago Bulls have the NBA's best record at 34-9, and the New York Knicks have lost five in a row, but the teams look evenly matched after a quarter of play in their Monday night matchup on ESPN in Chi-town. Tyson Chandler is the game's leading scorer so far with seven points on 3-3 shooting, and Jeremy LIn, despite the hullabaloo surrounding him having completely died down, is still playing well. He has two points and four assists so far.

Derrick Rose also has seven points, but he's shooting just 3-10 and has been covered well by Lin. He still has had a few nice plays, like this one, where he went coast-to-coast:

Joakim Noah also has six points with a couple of nice dunks along the way, including this posterization of Josh Harrelson.
