Dwight Howard Trade In Question After Center Comments On Finishing Season With Magic

As the NBA trade deadline approaches, the fate of Dwight Howard remains in total limbo. The All-Star center himself hasn't helped matters, saying Tuesday that he has been telling the Orlando Magic for the past couple of weeks that he wishes to play out the season with the club that made him the No. 1 pick in the 2004 draft.

If the Magic did let the deadline pass without dealing Howard, he would be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He has a $19.5 million salary on the books for next season, but he's almost assured of using his early termination option to sign a new deal.

A Tuesday morning report said that Howard plans to join the Brooklyn Nets before the 2012-13 season no matter what happens at the deadline. Deron Williams, the Nets' star, can also become a free agent in July.
