Portland Trail Blazers Waive Greg Oden To Clear Roster Space

The Portland Trail Blazers waived Greg Oden on Thursday, according to Ken Berger at CBS. The move was made in order for the Blazers to clear roster space for players added at the trade deadline.

Oden, the first overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft, has spent the better part of his career dealing with injuries. He is out for this season after having microfracture surgery on his left knee back in February. Oden has not played in a game since Dec. 5, 2009.

The Blazers sent Gerald Wallace to the New Jersey Nets on Thursday in exchange for Mehmet Okur, Shawne Williams and a top-three-protected first-round draft pick in 2012. A trade with the Houston Rockets netted Portland Jonny Flynn, Hasheem Thabeet and a second-round pick in 2012.

Oden was signed to a one-year deal prior to this season.
