Former Sacramento King J.J. Hickson will be landing with the Portland Trail Blazers, who were awarded the power forward from waivers, according to a report. Hickson and the Kings came to an agreement to buy out the remainder of his contract on Monday. Reports earlier this week had the Warriors as a likely destination if he cleared waivers, but Sam Amick first tweeted the news that Hickson was, in fact, headed to the Blazers.

The Blazers, who drastically turned over their roster at the trade deadline and fired head coach Nate McMillan, will have to pay him the prorated amount of around $2.5 million left on his contract for this season. Hickson showed promise in his first two years in the league with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but fell out of favor with new head coach Byron Scott and the Cavs then sent him to Sacramento in exchange for Omri Casspi. He never caught on with the Kings, and had fallen completely out of the rotation this season before his buyout this week.

J.J. Hickson didn't have the most wonderful career with the Sacramento Kings, but he's set for a new beginning following the agreement of a contract buyout on Monday. That new beginning will reportedly come with the Golden State Warriors.
Hickson will still have to clear waivers, but assuming nobody wants to pay him the prorated amount of roughly $2.5 million for the remainder of the season, CSN's Matt Steinmetz is reporting that the Warriors plan to sign him.
The Warriors are likely to sign power forward J.J. Hickson if and when he clears waivers, according to league sources.
The Warriors have room on their roster to accommodate Hickson's signing without having to waive a player. Hickson will likely get minutes at power forward behind starter David Lee.
Hickson will add to a front line that's already a bit clogged in Golden State, considering rookies Jeremy Tyler and Chris Wright are both still trying to work themselves into the rotation.
