Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder In Lead For Derek Fisher's Services

Stay connected with SB Nation

Derek Fisher is used to playing for NBA championship contenders, considering his long tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers, but that ended last week when he was traded -- and subsequently bought out -- by the Houston Rockets. Teams looking for a veteran point guard have already come forward with interest in Fisher, however.

The Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder are the top two teams vying for Fisher's services, according to a report on Tuesday morning from ESPN's Marc Stein.

The Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder have emerged as the early leaders in the race to sign veteran guard Derek Fisher after he clears waivers Wednesday, according to sources close to the situation.

The San Antonio Spurs are also said to be interested, but they apparently believe that Patty Mills is a better fit -- and they've already begun the process of courting the Australian guard. It sounds like both the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers are uninterested.
