Jeremy Lin, Culture Change Fuel Knicks' Turn Of Fortune

A month ago, the New York Knicks were toiling and in danger of falling out of contention in the Eastern Conference. Add a little Jeremy Lin and a culture change into the mix, and the Knicks are vastly improved and right back in the race.

Knicks Vs. Celtics: Rajon Rondo Triple-Double Powers Boston Past New York, 115-111

LeBron James and Kobe Bryant had to wait. Paul Pierce ensured free Knicks vs. Celtics basketball on Sunday afternoon, scoring Boston's last seven points in regulation, including a contested three-pointer with 4.9 seconds left that tied the game at 103.

In overtime, Rajon Rondo took control of the Celtics and the game, and finished with a freaking absurd line: 18 points, 20 assists, 17 rebounds. How rare is that?

(Ed. Note: So, yeah. Trade that guy, Boston. Makes sense.)

Jeremy Lin and Carmelo Anthony, quiet much of the game, came up big at the end of regulation for New York. Lin scored five points in 27 seconds to cut Boston's lead to one with 2:07 left. He finished with 14 points, but six turnovers.

But Rondo and the Celtics were too much at home in overtime. Mostly, because Rondo did stuff like this:

Knicks Vs. Celtics: Rajon Rondo Winning Matchup Vs. Jeremy Lin

Perhaps the best individual matchup from Knicks vs. Celtics appeared to be Rajon Rondo vs. Jeremy Lin. I use "appeared to be" because Rondo has dominated the Knicks point guard so far. Look at these numbers (via ABC):

In fact, Rondo had 13 points, 15 assists and nine rebounds after three quarters, which is a classic Rondo-Triple-Double in waiting. (EDIT: Rondo *did* in indeed grab that triple-double).

Meanwhile, Lin has as many turnovers (six) as points (six).

So crafty. So ... Rondo.

If these Rajon Rondo Trade Rumors are serious, someone would do well to put a package together.

Paul Pierce has also gone off in the second half. He hit the three-pointer in the above video and also blew by Lin, below:

Knicks Vs. Celtics Score Update: New York Up 56-51 At Half

The Celtics are one of the best defensive teams in the NBA, so of course the Knicks have somehow painted this game with an All-Star Game tinge. New York shot 56 percent in the first half and lead the Celtics by a score of 56-51 at halftime of their Sunday afternoon showdown.

Carmelo Anthony leads New York with 12 points and two assists while Amar'e Stoudemire added 10 points and five rebounds.

Jeremy Lin has struggled a bit with more turnovers (four) and fouls (three) than points (two). But he's also turned in some typical Jeremy Lin Video Highlights.

Paul Pierce has 10 points and five rebounds -- and this pure embarrassment of Steve Novak -- to show for himself so far.

Ray Allen Will Play Against Knicks Despite Illness

The Boston Celtics will have their Hall-of-Fame shooting guard on the floor Sunday afternoon when they take on Jeremy Lin, Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks. Ray Allen will play, the team announced, despite spending Saturday in the hospital with a, shall we say, problematic stomach bug.

The Celtics need Allen if they're planning on putting a halt to Linsanity. Boston has won their last three games after dropping five straight, but no one is convinced that they're back on track when those three wins come against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks and New Jersey Nets. They're 18-17, and the Knicks are 18-18, so this game has big implications in the Atlantic Division and the Eastern Conference playoff races.

Knicks Vs. Celtics: Schedule, TV Info And More

The New York Knicks continue their quest toward the playoffs with a visit to the rival Boston Celtics on Sunday. The game is one of four NBA matches scheduled to be broadcast on national TV on Sunday as the league rolls full steam ahead toward the playoffs, which in this (condensed) season will begin in the final days of April and continue through the middle of June.

The game will be broadcast live on ABC at 1 p.m. ET. A 30-minute pre-game show will be aired by ABC beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET, starring Magic Johnson, Mike Wilbon, Chris Broussard and Jon Barry.

The Knicks and Celtics have met twice already this season, including the very first game of the regular season on TNT back on Christmas. New York won that match, but the Celtics got revenge at home on February 3.
