Enormous Consequences: NBA Playoff Seeding On The Line This Weekend

Enormous Consequences is a daily look at the most impactful games in the NBA's playoff races.

It feels a bit weird to only have to pay attention to the six games on Friday night's slate of games considering there were 14 with playoff implications earlier in the week. Unfortunately none of the teams in action on Friday night will have to suffer enormous consequences, rendering this column somewhat useless, but playoff seeding is still on the line!

The most important game as far as the playoffs are concerned will take place in Atlanta on Monday night as the Hawks host the Boston Celtics at 7 p.m. on ESPN. The Hawks and Celtics are currently scheduled to matchup as the No. 4 and 5 seeds in the Eastern Conference, though a couple of losses by the Hawks paired with Orlando Magic wins would drop the Hawks to the No. 6 seed.

The top seed in the West could potentially change hands on Friday night, too, with the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City thunder both in action (with just one-half game separating the two teams in the standings). The Spurs seem like they'll have a much more difficult outing as they face the Los Angeles Lakers (9:30, ESPN) whereas the Thunder are on the road to play the Sacramento Kings (10 p.m., NBA League Pass).

The Dallas Mavericks are scheduled to host the Golden State Warriors (8:30, NBA League Pass) on Friday night, too, with a potential seeding change on the line. The Warriors have already been eliminated from playoff contention while the Mavs have already clinched a postseason berth, but Dallas could still drop from sixth to seventh in the East -- equating to a change of their first round playoff opponent from the Thunder to the Lakers if the season ended today.

There are two other games taking place on Friday night, though neither offers much in terms of consequences, enormous or otherwise. The Memphis Grizzlies will play the Charlotte Bobcats (7 p.m., NBA League Pass) as they look to help the Bobcats pursue 23-straight losses to end the season while the recently-clinched New York Knicks will be on the road to play the Cleveland Cavaliers (7:30, NBA League Pass).
