Saturday has been a bad day for left knees in the NBA. Earlier, Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose was diagnosed with a torn ACL in his left knee in the Chicago Bulls' win over the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 1 of the 2012 NBA Playoffs. Now, New York Knicks rookie guard Iman Shumpert has been diagnosed with the same injury.

Shumpert suffered the injury midway through the third quarter in the Knicks' blowout loss to the Miami Heat in Game 1 of their playoff series. He tried to make a crossover move on Mario Chalmers, but his knee buckled and he immediately fell to the floor.
Shumpert had come on late in his rookie season, emerging as a tough defensive stopper for the Knicks. With him sidelined, Landry Fields will likely return to the starting lineup, and J.R. Smith and Toney Douglas will be seeing more time.
