Stan Van Gundy's confirmation of a report that Dwight Howard asked for him to be fired as the Orlando Magic coach had many wondering about Van Gundy's immediate future with the club. However, for the time being, it appears Van Gundy will remain the team's coach, according to general manager Otis Smith.
Otis Smith: "Stan is still our coach, Dwight is still a player. It's another chapter in the saga that’s been going on since the beg. of yr."

The Magic are currently 32-22 and in fifth place in the Eastern Conference despite having to deal with the drama surrounding Howard's impending free agency. It was supposed to have died down when Howard announced at the trade deadline that he would not opt-out and become a free agent this summer, but that hasn't happened.
Regardless of Van Gundy's current status, his future in Orlando beyond this season remains in doubt.
