Advanced stats have arrived with NBA observers and writers. It may not be as crazy as the stat-obsessed baseball community, but there's no denying the amount of data now available on NBA players and that's led to an explosion of external (non-team) analysis.
SB Nation's Detroit Pistons blog, Detroit Bad Boys, used some available data to produce a player-by-player breakdown of the Piston's season. Some results are expected, others are not.

Wins Produced says that Monroe, Jerebko, Stuckey, and Wallace are driving this team's success. No one would dispute Monroe and Stuckey, but Jerebko and Wallace might raise a few eyebrows (or ideally, one single eyebrow, if you know what I mean). But most surprisingly for many is that Wins Produced suggests that Brandon Knight is actively losing games for the Pistons, not winning them.
Great work by Detroit Bad Boys. Just because a team isn't in the playoff race, doesn't mean there's not meaningful discussion to be had about the future. Information like this provides a critical piece of the puzzle.
