Bulls Vs. Knicks: Carmelo Anthony Nails Game-Winning 3-Pointer In Overtime

Derrick Rose's return leads the storylines, but Carmelo Anthony's recent hot streak and a return home to Madison Square Garden could ruin Rose's return party Sunday afternoon.

Bulls Vs. Knicks Final Score: Carmelo Anthony Game-Winner Gives New York OT Win, 100-99

The Knicks needed a hero to save them from collapse versus the Bulls and Carmelo Anthony was there -- twice. Anthony hit a three-pointer with 11 seconds left to send the game to overtime and then buried the game-winner in the extra frame, giving New York a 100-99 win against East-leading Chicago and preserving their tenuous hold on the conference's eighth and final playoff spot.

On the Knicks' final possession, Anthony went for an isolation and drilled a three-pointer with Loul Deng all over him. Watch Carmelo direct the Knicks to spread the floor, size up the coverage and then pull up from behind the arc. Stone. Cold.

Anthony finished with 43 points, seven rebounds and three assists. He was the only Knick to score more than 15 points. It was exactly why the Knicks traded for Anthony and exactly what they need from him with Amar'e Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin sidelined.

It only took Derrick Rose one half to regain his form in his return to the lineup, but it's a pair of late missed free throws that could have iced the game that will stand out more than Rose's 29 points.

With the win, the Knicks improve to 29-27 and hold a one-game lead over the Bucks for the eighth and final playoff spot. They're also just half a game back of the Sixers for the 7th spot. But if New York stays at No. 8, we would see a rematch of this game as a first-round playoff series.

After he hit the three, Melo shouted, "This is my house!" If the current standings hold, playoff games at The Garden should be quite a good show. (And Ben Stiller will be there, loving it ...)

Bulls Vs. Knicks Score: Derrick Rose, Carmelo Anthony Duel Goes To Overtime

This Bulls vs. Knicks game is bonkers. And we're getting more of it for free. Carmelo Anthony canned a three-pointer with 11 seconds left to salvage OT after the Knicks blew a 21-point first quarter lead. Anthony had 38 points in regulation.

Anthony was only in position to tie the game after Derrick Rose missed a pair of free throws that would have iced the game in the final minute. In the wild ending, Steve Novak rattled a three-pointer halway into the basket, but when it popped out the game seemed all but over.

Then Carmelo Anthony happened:

Derrick Rose struggled for the first 24 minutes in his return to the lineup on Sunday afternoon. But he was back to his old self in the second half, leading the Bulls to the brink of a big win in regulation.

Rose scored 18 of his 25 points in the second half. Perhaps none seemed bigger -- or more awesome -- than this and-one three pointer, followed by borrowing Joakim Noah's FINGA GUNZ for an on-the-ground celebration.

At that point it seemed like the Bulls would cruise to a win, but the Knicks have made this very interesting.

Bulls Vs. Knicks Score: Carmelo Anthony Hot, Derrick Rose Not; New York Leads 53-45

The Bulls have to be pleased to only be down eight at halftime against the Knicks after the first half on Sunday. The Knicks led 27-6 in the first quarter, but Chicago is still right in this game with 24 minutes of basketball left.

Let's get right into the news and notes:

Carmelo Anthony was just a bully on offense. The Knicks forward got in a rhythm early and once he got rolling, he spun 22 points out of 14 shots and added four rebounds and two assists in 19+ minutes. With Amar'e Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin out, the offense unquestionably belongs to Anthony, and so far today, that's been a good thing.

• The good news for the Bulls is that Derrick Rose is back in the lineup, but he's not quite DERRICK ROSE yet. He recorded his first field goal with 8.7 seconds left in the half, finishing with seven points and five turnovers. It might take him some time to get back to his old self.

Tyson Chandler suffered an elbow injury, which forced him into the locker room, but he returned to the bench and finished out the second half. The Knicks have been a defensive force with Chandler and they are holding the Bulls to 36 percent shooting. The Bulls have also turned it over 10 times.

• With Chandler out, the Knicks went SUPER small with Anthony at power forward and Steve Novak (!) at center. Is that New York's smallest lineup ... ever?

Joakim Noah picked up a Flagrant 1 foul for this takedown of Iman Shumpert. Agree with the call?

Tyson Chandler Injury: Knicks Center Leaves Holding Elbow Vs. Bulls

UPDATE: From the Knicks, via Howard Beck, Chandler has an elbow contusion. He's available to play.

***

The Knicks dream start vs. the Bulls turned sour when Tyson Chandler appeared to suffer an elbow injury toward the end of the first quarter. Chandler clutched his elbow and then motioned to the bench for a substitution before heading into the tunnel with the trainer and team doctor.

New York led 31-19 after the first quarter.

Chandler returned to the bench, but appeared to still be in pain. The severity of the injury remains to be seen.

The Knicks have been the best defensive team in the NBA since Mike Woodson took over as head coach 12 games ago, and Chandler -- an elite post defender -- has been the biggest catalyst of that culture change.

Chandler, who also leads the NBA in field goal percentage this season, had four points and two rebounds in nearly 10 minutes. He also picked up his 11th technical foul of the season for slapping the ball out of Carlos Boozer's hands after the whistle.

Bulls Vs. Knicks: Derrick Rose Will Play With No Minute Limit, Says Tom Thibodeau

Derrick Rose has missed the Chicago Bulls' last 12 games, but that streak is going to come to an end Sunday. The reigning NBA MVP will return to play the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden and he should play a fair amount. From K.C. Johnson at the Chicago Tribune:

Coach Tom Thibodeau said Rose's minutes might drop a little. But Thibodeau said the reigning most valuable player has looked explosive in practice.

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith said on SportsCenter that Rose's minutes will not be limited, but he typically plays close to 40 minutes a game, and it's hard to fathom Thibodeau running him out there for that long. Expect him to play north of 30 minutes and to play a large part of the fourth quarter if it's close.

The Bulls won 8 of 12 games in Rose's absence.
