Chris Andersen is under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office but, in a statement released to the Denver Post, one of his lawyers said Andersen is the victim of extortion.
"A female fan in 2010 mailed Mr. Andersen multiple letters and included several photos in which she was scantily clad. Chris and this woman communicated with each other and in 2011, this woman, who represented herself as 21 years of age, flew to Colorado, showing her required identification. After leaving Colorado, she became upset at his lack of interest. In 2012, she threatened to retaliate if he did not provide financial remuneration. "
Andersen, who has been excused indefinitely from team activities by the Denver Nuggets, has been under investigation since February.

Denver Nuggets center Chris Andersen is currently being investigated "for undisclosed Internet crimes against children," according to numerous reports released on Wednesday. While the investigation is troubling to say the least, it's difficult to speculate what exactly is happening in the situation.
"For me right now, I'm in a stage where I don't know enough information and we're advised probably not to talk about it until we know the information, but the one thing I will say is - I trust Chris," Karl said. "My years with him, he's been fantastic and he's really grown as a person. We're going to support him and stand by him."
Considering Karl knows Andersen better than most, his comments on the situation are worth considering.
"I talked to Bird for about 5-10 minutes after shootaround. He was emotional and I was in a state where I didn't want to spend a lot of time on that," Karl said. "I think enough guys individually have been told what's going on. We don't have the full story to analyze and scrutinize. I trust Bird, I think Bird will figure this out."
Until the full story is uncovered, as Karl notes, it's probably best to withhold judgment.

Chris Andersen is being investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, with a raid taking place at his home on Thursday. Details are scarce, and Andersen has neither been arrested nor charged with any crimes, but the Denver Nuggets have excused him from the team as the investigation unfolds. At this point, though, nobody is quite sure what the authorities may be looking for or what triggered the investigation.
It has been my privilege to know Mr. Andersen both personally and professionally for many years. He is an outstanding member of this community. We have been actively cooperating with the authorities and will continue to do so. No arrest has been made. I believe in Chris. I would ask the Citizens of Colorado to give Chris his due. Like every one of us, he is presumed innocent. At the end of the day, I am confident it will be shown that he did nothing wrong. We are confident law enforcement is actively pursuing all angles and will get to the truth.
