The Chicago Bulls are looking to hold onto head coach Tom Thibodeau. The front office intends to sign the coach to a long-term extension.

The Chicago Bulls had a very disappointing end to their stellar 2011-12 season. After seeing Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah go down with injuries, the Bulls were bounced out of the playoffs in the opening round against the Philadelphia 76ers. Still, their lockout-shortened regular season showed tremendous promise, and to that end, the front office looks to be intent on keeping the core of the team intact.

According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, general manager Gar Forman affirmed that Thibodeau's contract will be picked up. Discussions on a long-term extension will begin shortly.

Thibodeau joined the Bulls in 2010, picked up Coach of the Year honors in 2011 and was one of the coaches in the 2012 NBA All-Star Game. Although his time with the Bulls represents his first head-coaching job, Thibodeau's long coaching career began in 1989 as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and he was one of the NBA's most highly regarded defensive assistants during his stint with the Boston Celtics.
