Mike Woodson has been operating as the interim head coach for the New York Knicks since Mike D'Antoni resigned fairly early in the NBA season. After a bit of a behind-the-scenes kerfuffle, it sounds as though Woodson will be able to drop the "interim" tag thanks to a long-term extension.
The team was expected to go after a high-profile head coach, but Newsday is reporting that the team has instead decided to bring Woodson back for the 2012-13 season.
The Knicks officially are expected to remove the interim label from Mike Woodson's title this week, according to multiple sources. The two sides are working on a long-term deal, the sources said, and something could be done within the next couple of days.
If the Knicks were interested in re-signing Woodson, it would seem this week was the time to make a decision. The Charlotte Bobcats job has been open for awhile and, after the Orlando Magic fired Stan Van Gundy on Monday, the coaching searches are all about to heat up.
