Allen Iverson Will Never Officially Retire

Allen Iverson attended Wednesday's Game 6 between the Sixers and Celtics in Philadelphia. There is no question that seeing him talk to ESPN's Lisa Salters warmed the hearts of a huge number of men of a certain age. It was A.I. back in his realm, talking hoop ...

... remaining completely convinced that he still has it. Ben Golliver transcribed A.I.'s full quote on his own retirement, and it's exactly what you imagined it would be.

"I'm not using that word [retirement]. I want to play basketball so bad. I mean, the way it is right now, I've accepted the fact that [playing in the NBA] might not happen. But I still want to play basketball. If I can get an opportunity to where it's going to make me happy at the end of my career, I'll take that opportunity. But I just love to play and I want to have another opportunity to play on the professional level."

Playing in the NBA might not happen. Oh boy.

We need Gabriel Garcia Marquez to write the end of A.I.'s story, by having him ascend directly to Basketball Heaven.

It's going to be great when they try to induct him into the Hall of Fame and he refuses to show up because his career isn't over.
