Jerry Sloan Withdraws Name From Charlotte Bobcats Coaching Search

Stay connected with SB Nation

On Tuesday, it was reported that the Charlotte Bobcats had narrowed their list of candidates for their vacant head coaching position down to three finalists. It now appears as though that list has gotten even narrower as former Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan has pulled out of the running for the position.

Sam Amick at SI.com reports that Sloan, who had already gone through a first interview with team owner Michael Jordan present, withdrew his name from consideration for undisclosed reasons.

"I took myself out today," Sloan said by phone. "I don't want to comment on it because it's never profitable for anybody. It just makes it sound like you're making a statement about someone. But they were wonderful and there were no problems. I just took myself out."

Sloan stated he has not been in contact with any other team about a coaching position. It now appears as through the Bobcats will choose between Indiana Pacers assistant Brian Shaw and Lakers assistant Quin Snyder.
