Much has been made of the sartorial choices sported by various NBA stars during the 2012 NBA Playoffs, particularly with regard to unique eyewear decisions. I think we may have finally reached the point at which the players are officially just trolling us. See, when Dwyane Wade first showed up in the league, it was long enough ago that the big joke on him (other than "LOL, TYPO!") was, "LOL, his name resembles that of Kadeem Hardison's character Dwayne Wayne from the hit television show A Different World!" After Tuesday's Game 4 of the NBA Finals, we achieved a point of convergence. We are through the looking glass here, people.
This is what D-Wade sported during the post-game press conference:
The flip-up shades were the single defining aspect of the character of Dwayne Wayne (at lest in the early season, before the love story between him and Whitley became the star of the show and -- oh my god I am so old I will just stop talking now), so one would have to think that Wade was wearing these glasses for no other reason than to invoke the comparison. So we shall.
A side-by-side comparison:
I guess this makes LeBron Denise Huxtable and Chris Bosh is Whitley Gilbert? I have to re-think my entire fanfic oeuvre.
LeBron James is leading a NBA Finals, and Dwyane Wade is Dwayne Wayne. It truly is ... a different world.
