Kevin Garnett, Boston Celtics Agree To 3-Year $34 Million Deal

While there were rumors abounds that the Boston Celtics and Kevin Garnett were close to agreeing to a new deal, the two sides have "officially" done so on Saturday, according to a report by Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

NBA free agency begins at midnight, but teams and players cannot officially sign deals until July 11. There was some thought that the 36-year-old Garnett might retire from the NBA after 17 seasons, but it looks like Garnett will be returning for at least his 18th season in the NBA and his sixth with the Celtics.

Last season, Garnett averaged 15.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, playing just over 31 minutes.

NBA Free Agency: Kevin Garnett To Sign Multi-Year Deal With Celtics, According To Report

Kevin Garnett will sign a new contract with the Boston Celtics once NBA free agency opens, reports Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald. The deal will reportedly be for at least two seasons, and possibly a third. The report cites an anonymous source who said that once KG decided he wanted to continue to play, he never considered signing with any team but the Celtics.

Garnett was traded to the Celtics in 2007, and the team won the 2008 NBA Championship in his first season in Boston. The club has been back to the NBA Finals once since then, and to the Eastern Conference Finals two additional times, including this season. Garnett is 36 with tons of miles on his treads.

The Celtics have three other major free agents to deal with, assuming they lock up Garnett: Ray Allen, Jeff Green and Brandon Bass. All three are unrestricted free agents.

Free agency begins at midnight. Deals can officially be signed on July 11.
