Orlando Pro Summer League: MarShon Brooks Scores Record-Tying 34 As Nets Top Pacers

ORLANDO -- The previously winless Brooklyn Nets closed out the 2012 Orlando Pro Summer League with a victory, topping the Indiana Pacers, 90-77, behind a record-tying 34 points from MarShon Brooks.

Star player: Perhaps having a rest Thursday aided Brooks in his 34-point outing in Friday's finale. The second-year guard dominated the ball, recording 27 shot attempts, seven free-throw attempts, six assists, and three turnovers in his 33 minutes. Brooks ought to dominate in settings like this one, matched up against fringe NBA talents, and he did so. An impressive performance, especially considering his 0-for-10 clunker against the Orlando Magic on Monday.

Honorable mention: Nets rookie Tornike Shengelia scored 16 points off the bench and looks likely to earn an invitation to training camp. The second-round Draft choice shot 6-of-10 from the floor and projects to be a decent utility forward off the bench.

Disappointing player: First-round Draft pick Miles Plumlee looked fatigued and played ineffectively against Brooklyn. The back-to-basket center missed nine of his 12 shot attempts and hauled in only six rebounds in 30 minutes. D-Leaguer Jeff Foote soundly outplayed him, which does not bode well for Plumlee's NBA prospects.

Dishonorable mention: Point guard Taurean Green didn't make the most of his opportunity to break back into the NBA. A member of the Florida Gators' national championship-winning squads in 2006 and 2007, Green played in 17 games for the Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers in his lone NBA season before heading overseas. In 12 minutes Friday, Green missed five of his six shots and committed three turnovers against no assists.

Prospect watch: Foote scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in by far his best outing of the week.

Indiana's Lance Stephenson scored 19 points on 9-of-16 shooting, but his shot selection remains suspect, and his playmaking skills (three assists, five turnovers) leave much to be desired. It's unclear whether he's better suited to play shooting guard or point guard at the NBA level.

The Nets gave rookie point guard Tyshawn Taylor the day off.
