Not entirely fulfilled by owning just one professional sports team, Houston Rockets owner and billionaire Les Alexander is reportedly trying to purchase Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo, according to Houston Chronicle reporter Jose de Jesus Ortiz:
I have confirmed with multiple sources that the Rockets owner Les Alexander is trying to purchase Dynamo, as 1st reported by Mark Berman.— Jose de Jesus Ortiz (@OrtizKicks) August 16, 2012
Alexander took over the Rockets back in 1993, and was publicly denied dual-sport ownership five years later when he failed in his attempt to acquire the Edmonton Oilers. Despite also owning the WNBA's Houston Comets until shortly before the team folded in 2007, Alexander has actively been trying to add a second men's pro sports franchise to his portfolio for a while now.
With the recent growth of soccer across the country and increased viewership for MLS teams, Alexander seems to be making a smart move by working to acquire a soccer franchise. Although the deal isn't quite finalized, Alexander's front office with the Rockets has always been a huge asset, so one would suspect the Dynamo would be in good hands with Alexander in control.
