The Philadelphia 76ers will interview Sam Hinkie for the team's vacant general manager position, according to a report published by Sports Illustrated's Sam Amick on Tuesday afternoon.
Hinkie is currently employed by the Houston Rockets as the club's executive vice president of basketball operations, and acts as general manager Daryl Morey's right-hand man. Originally hired by the organization in 2005, Hinkie specializes in analytics and has been a prominent figure in Houston's draft selections, scouting and salary cap management.
While Philadelphia has asked for and received permission to speak with Hinkie, it's unknown whether a meeting has taken place yet or if he has any interest in leaving his position in Houston.
In addition to Hinkie, Boston assistant general manager Mike Zarren, former New Orleans general manager Jeff Bower and former Portland assistant general manager Tom Penn are potential candidates to replace incumbent Rod Thorn.
