Former San Antonio Spurs assistant general manager Dennis Lindsey will be the next GM of the Utah Jazz, the team announced on Friday. Lindsey will officially be known as an "acting" GM, but he has the job, for all intents and purposes. Current GM Kevin O'Connor will move into an executive role with the team.
Lindsey spent 11 years with the Houston Rockets before joining the Spurs in 2007, and he is widely seen as one of the top assistant GMs in the league. In fact, Lindsey was the only person the Jazz called once O'Connor decided he wanted to be reassigned. He is expected to help the Jazz keep up in the world of advanced statistics, where they had fallen behind recently.
O'Connor had said that he was willing to perform the GM's job until a good candidate was found. He has been in the GM position for the last 13 years, and he will still be actively involved in the Jazz's decision-making. He just won't be performing a lot of the day-to-day responsibilities.
