Andrew Bogut Expected Back For Season Opener

Bogut will be asked to anchor the NBA's third-worst defense and provide some interior toughness to a finesse team.

According to the Sporting News' Sean Deveney, Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut should be ready for the season opener against the Phoenix Suns.

"Yes, we expect that," Warriors GM Bob Myers told Sporting News. "That's just me prophesizing, but all indications are that will be the case. We're hoping that he is in there for us on opening night. But if he needs two games, if the difference is waiting because he is not quite there, then we'll wait. But we expect Bogut to play opening night."

Bogut fractured his left ankle on Jan. 25 prior to his trade from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Warriors. He has since been recovering and had surgery on April 27 to clean out bone spurs in his ankle.

The Warriors have long been perimeter-heavy and Bogut will be looked upon to change that. The sturdy big man doesn't mind banging beneath the boards and has averaged 2.5 blocks per game over the past three seasons, a welcome change compared to Warriors' big men of the past.

Though Bogut is expected to be in the lineup on opening night, he will more than likely miss most, if not all, of the Warriors' preseason games.
