The Philadelphia 76ers, in search of a new general manager to replace Rod Thorn, are giving senior vice president of basketball operations Tony DiLeo consideration for the position, according to a report by John N. Mitchell of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Philadelphia interviewed four candidates outside the franchise this offseason, according to the article, but found DiLeo's offseason role with the team, which included landing prized center Andrew Bynum from the Los Angeles Lakers, very impressive.
DiLeo was named the 76ers' interim head coach in December of 2008 after the organization fired Maurice Cheeks, and led Philadelphia to a 41-41 record in that season and a playoff berth, eventually losing to the Orlando Magic in the first round.
The Sixers, under head coach Doug Collins, upset the top-seeded Chicago Bulls in six games in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs a season ago and pushed the rival Boston Celtics to seven games in the second round.
