Manu Ginobili injury: Strained hamstring fells Spurs guard

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Manu Ginobili suffered his fourth different injury of the season when he strained his left hamstring on Sunday. Ginobili will be re-evaluated further, and it's looking like he will miss some time.

Manu Ginobili suffered another setback in an injury-filled campaign thus far, sitting out the second half of the San Antonio Spurs' 106-88 victory on Sunday over the Minnesota Timberwolves due to a strained left hamstring.

The injury is Ginobili's fourth different one this season. The 11-year veteran missed time in the preseason with a sore foot, and has also missed games due to back spasms and a thigh contusion. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Ginobili will be re-evaluated further, and Stephen Jackson is anticipating that his fellow benchmate will likely miss some time (via Spurs Nation):

"It sucks," said Jackson, "but it's a part of the game. I'm glad it's a strain and not a pull. He'll be back a little quicker. But we have to step up. One person won't be able to fill Manu's shoes for what he does. Me, Gary (Neal), a couple other guys off the bench have to do it collectively."

Despite battling injuries for much of the year, Ginobili has remained effective in his bench role. The 35-year-old is averaging 12.9 points, 4.6 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 24.3 minutes. And while his shooting mark of 44.0 percent is well down from last year's 52.6 percent, he's still having a nice season efficiency wise. Ginobili is sporting a PER of 20.64 and is in the top-10 in true shooting percentage for shooting guards.
