The Memphis Grizzlies will be without Rudy Gay on Monday as he attends his grandmother's funeral.
Rudy Gay will be in Baltimore to attend his grandmother's funeral on Monday, and as a result will miss his Memphis Grizzlies' game against the Los Angeles Clippers, according to the Memphis Commerical Appeal.
The forward is expected to return for a game against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.
His grandmother, who passed away less than two weeks ago, had a major role in Gay's life, according to the Commercial Appeal. She was ill in late December, and after spending the holiday break with her, Gay missed Memphis' Dec. 26 game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Gay is averaging 17.8 points and 5.7 points per game for the Grizzlies.
Who replaces Gay in the starting lineup is unknown. In the Dec. 26 game, wing Quincy Pondexter took Gay's place at small forward, but Pondexter is currently out with a knee injury. Without any natural small forwards left on the roster, Wayne Ellington could be one option if head coach Lionel Hollins goes with a somewhat traditional lineup.
