Chris Paul will not play against the Grizzlies due to a right kneecap injury. The Clippers are setting out on a road trip in which they will play three games in four nights.
Point guard Chris Paul will not play for the Clippers' game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night, according to the Los Angeles Times. Paul is dealing with a bruised right kneecap, and the team announced earlier Monday afternoon that he would be a game-time decision.
The Clippers are 28-9 this season, one game back of Oklahoma City for the best record in the league. Vinny Del Negro's team went through the month of December undefeated, reeling off a 17-game win streak to shoot to the top of the Western Conference. Since then, they're 3-3 in the new year.
In his second year in L.A., Paul continues to take a commanding role with the club, pushing the team up a level to a legitimate contender this season. The Clippers are second in the league, averaging 23.9 assists per game. Paul is clearly the player most responsible for their success, and losing him for any significant portion of time would be a big blow, so the Clippers have exercised extra caution with the bruised knee. Los Angeles is in the middle of a quick three-game road trip in which they will play three games in four nights.
