The Hawks shot just 7-for-35 en route to a franchise record that no one in the ATL can be proud of.
The Atlanta Hawks struggled on Monday night in the first half against the Chicago Bulls, and that's an understatement.
With a 7-for-35 night from the field, Atlanta set a new franchise record for fewest points in a half. They nearly set the mark for the all-time NBA low, but the Los Angeles Clippers hold that distinction, having scored just 19 points against the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 14, 1999.
So how did it happen? As one could imagine, the box score was amazing.
The lowlights:
- The Hawks scored just five points in the second quarter
- Somehow, there were still four lead changes in the first half, all of them coming in the first quarter
- Atlanta turned the ball over seven times, but allowed only five points off those giveaways
- Number of bench points by the Hawks? Two.
- Two players (Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer) outscored the entire Hawks team in the second quarter
- Atlanta scored zero points off Chicago's six turnovers
Atlanta is 21-15 on the season and in second place in the Southeast division, but you couldn't tell it from anything that went on in the first half at Chicago's United Center on that fateful Monday night.
