The Atlanta Hawks have suspended forward Josh Smith for one game due to "conduct detrimental to the team" the team announced Wednesday. Atlanta hosts the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday coming off a 39-point loss to the Chicago Bulls on Monday.
Smith, the Hawks' leading scorer this season, was kicked out of the team's practice on Tuesday, according to Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. One can imagine that the suspension, as well as the fine he received, likely stem from that incident, which hasn't been reported in detail yet.
In a statement released to the press, Smith said, "I understand and respect the team's actions and just want to get back on the court to do whatever is necessary," which is probably what you want your star player to say after he's been suspended from the team for poor behavior.
Through 35 games this season, Smith has per game averages of 16.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.3 blocks and 1.3 steals.
