The injury-ravaged Timberwolves have reached an agreement with Mickael Gelabale on a 10-day contract. Gelabale had been playing with the Spanish team Valencia.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have announced the signing of European wing Mickael Gelabale to a 10-day contract. Gelabale had been rumored to be heading to the Timberwolves for the last week or so, and the deal finally became official on Saturday.
Gelabale had been playing with the Spanish team Valencia prior to signing the deal. In 10 Euroleague games, he averaged 12.8 points on 60.5 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from three-point range. The 29-year-old last played in the NBA in 2008 with the Seattle SuperSonics. He played in 109 games over two seasons with the Sonics, averaging 4.5 points and 2.1 rebounds in 15.1 minutes.
Minnesota has been ravaged by injuries this season, with Nikola Pekovic (bruised quad) and Alexey Shved (twisted ankle) the latest players to go down. Pekovic and Shved join Kevin Love (broken hand), Chase Budinger (knee surgery), Brandon Roy (chronic knee problems), Josh Howard (knee surgery) and Malcolm Lee (hip surgery) on the shelf. In addition to all of them, J.J. Barea has missed time and Ricky Rubio has been struggling in his return from ACL surgery.
The Timberwolves were just granted an injury exception, so they can add another player to the roster in addition to Gelabale.
