Hawks vs. Spurs final: Spurs win while Duncan sits

Josh D. Weiss-USA TODAY Sports

Even without Tim Duncan, San Antonio was able to pull out a road win in Atlanta.

The San Antonio Spurs didn't let being down two of three best players keep them from picking up a much needed road win, beating the Atlanta Hawks 98-93 Saturday night. Already down Manu Ginobili due to a hamstring injury, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich opted to sit Tim Duncan as the Spurs were playing the second night of a back to back.

While the Spurs are one of the best teams in the league at home, they've been average on the road and have lost their last three away from the AT&T Center. The Spurs jumped out to a quick start, outscoring the Hawks 25-16 in the first quarter and kept the pressure on, taking a ten point lead in to the half. Boris Diaw started in Duncan's place, scoring nine points in 25 minutes. Little used Matt Bonner and DeJuan Blair also logged big minutes. Bonner scored 17 points off the bench while Blair added seven points and seven rebounds.

The Hawks, who found out earlier in the day they'd be without guard Lou Williams for the rest of the season after he tore the ACL in his right knee, managed only 42 points in the first half. A big third quarter pulled them within two to end the quarter, but Atlanta didn't get any closer then two in the second half, dropping their fourth in their last six. Josh Smith led the Hawks with 21 points and eight rebounds. Devin Harris and John Jenkins filled in for Williams off the bench, combining for 22 points.

Tony Parker led the Spurs with 23 points and 12 assists. Kawhi Leonard and Tiago Splitter each added 14 as the Spurs won their fourth game in a row.
