Ricky Rubio will not be on the Timberwolves' road trip this week, missing two games as he receives treatment for back spasms.
The Minnesota Timberwolves will hold point guard Ricky Rubio out of the team's next two games, according to a report from the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Rubio will not make the quick two-game road trip out west as he tries to recover from the stiff back that has bothered him this past week. The second-year guard missed Saturday's game against the Phoenix Suns, and the team is exercising caution as they try to get him ready for this weekend's home game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Timberwolves are scheduled to play on the road against the Jazz and Nuggets this week. Rick Adelman told the Star Tribune that it didn't make sense to risk further aggravation to Rubio's back spasms by putting him on a plane for the trip. Instead, he will stay in Minnesota and receive treatment.
After tearing an ACL last season, Rubio made an early return for the Timberwolves in December. The team is bringing him along slowly, however, as they take extra care of their young point guard. In five games this season, he's averaging just over 18.4 minutes.
