The Suns parted ways with Alvin Gentry on Friday after Phoenix opened the season with the worst record in the Western Conference. Gentry was in the final year of his contract and described the decision as a "mutual agreement" between himself and the team.
Gentry spent the past nine seasons with the Phoenix Suns organization and has been the team's head coach since the last half of the 2009 season. Gentry posted a 158-144 record as head coach and most notably was two games away from leading the Suns to the NBA Finals in 2010 before the team ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference finals.
The Suns' next game is on Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings.
