Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski says that the NBA's relocation Committee will approve the Kings' move to Seattle.
Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports that it is a "formality" that the NBA's relocation committee will approve the Sacramento Kings' move to Seattle.
The news broke on Sunday night that the Maloof family had struck a deal with Chris Hansen to move the team to Seattle. Hansen's group would pay about $340 million in the deal, or 65 percent of the $525 million total franchise valuation.
No deal is officially complete until it is approved by the NBA's Board of Governors. So while the sale can be approved by the Relocation Committee, it can still be blocked down the road by the Board of Governors.
Sacramento will still be able to make a last-ditch case to the Board of Governors to save the Kings. Mayor Kevin Johnson has been working hard to put together a pool of investors that could present a viable offer to keep the team in Sacramento. A Sacramento-based ownership group would likely have to come up with about $425-450 million to have a chance.
